The Kashmiri people, despite all the troubles imposed on them in recent times are welcoming and genuine people. Tourism and handicrafts are traditionally a driver of the local economy, and everyone , whether or not involved in the tourism industry, appears delighted that after a very long absence, a good number of domestic and international tourists are finally returning to Kashmir.
Apart from cafeterias located at the base and mid station of the gondola and at the Golf Club, Gulmarg's food services are based almost exclusively at the hotels.
There are no options for food shopping in Gulmarg apart from a couple of extremely basic shops located approximately one mile from the gondola.
Gulmarg's best dining experiences were the restaurants of Hotel Pine Palace and Hotel Hilltop, which both offer International as well as Kashmiri cuisine.
