DON'T:

Forget to bring laxatives as well as Immodium. The Gulmarg guts can strike at any time, but it's also common to have the opposite problem.

Miss the Green Tea -  Kashmiri Khawa, the local sweet tea made with cinnamon, cardamom, Ginger, Saffaron & a bit of Kashmir Honey; warms up every thing after a fantastic day in the Gulmarg snow . You would love to take some home too. Don’t buy the cheap Quality.

Get overcharged for goods; in Kashmir, like the rest of India and most of Asia, buyers are expected to haggle on price. As a Westerner, the local people will see you as a honey pot, so bargain hard and don't be afraid to walk off if the price isn't right. But you would find some nice places with good prices also.

Come to Gulmarg for the nightlife: Nightlife is centred around the evening meal, and is largely what you make it: Conversation with new and old friends - perhaps over a game of cards; resting up while reading a good book; or But more to night life Smoke a hubbly Bubbly & watch TV & chat with the always happy locals.

For a change you might shoot a few games at the Golf Club's full-size billiards table; ice-skate under the Himalayan moonlight; participate in cross-country ski night-races along the inner ring road; or maybe go for a quiet walk and torch-spotting for Gulmarg's nocturnal visitors. Kashmir is largely a Muslim region and alcohol is in limited supply, only available through hotels who get clandestine supplies from the Indian army bases.

- Shop at Gulmarg : Shopping opportunities do exist at Gulmarg but they are very limited. We recommend that guests defer any purchases of Kashmiri memorabilia (including rugs, pashmina shawls, jewellery, paper-mache ornaments, wood carvings and furniture) until their visit to Srinagar, which has a fabulous range of beautiful Kashmiri handicrafts and clothing.

Expect female Crowds; you'll see very few Kashmiri women out and about (they all seem to be hidden away inside their homes ) and the few foreign ladies that come to Gulmarg are invariably attached.

Come to Gulmarg as a beginner; this place is best enjoyed by intermediate to advanced snowboarders and skiers. There is only one groomed run on Mount Apharwat plus three short drag accessed runs at the other end of the village - not exactly ideal for your first time on snow. But the govt runs ski cources for beginners which can be really useful.

- Leave without a  stay at House boat in Dal lake / Nagin Lake ., Floating Gardens, The canals , Char chinar, The lotus gardens and a breath taking view of beautiful Himalayan range, this is one of the most chilled out places on earth, winning high praise from from times immemorable.
